Teacher Guardian Scheme (Mentoring Cell)

The teacher Guardian Scheme (TGS) is introduced to assist students with their learning difficulties and to monitor their academic performance regularly. For a batch of about Fifteen to twenty-five students, a teacher is assigned the role of Teacher – Guardian (TG). Teacher – Guardian works as a friend, philosopher, and mentor for these students. This scheme is to provide a conducive environment to the students takes some burden off the parents and lessens their anxiety. The students are free to contact the Teacher – Guardian for any kind of problems at any time during college hours. Students may also contact Teacher–Guardian through mobile after college hours.

The objectives of the scheme are:


  • To acclimatize the new students to campus life in VBKCOE
  • To provide academic counseling
  • To enlighten the students on professional ethics and conduct
  • To ease the trauma of transfer to a new place
  • To communicate with the ward’s parents
  • Providing emotional support to students on an individual basis.
  • Helping students overcome homesickness.
  • Establishing rapport between teachers, students & parents.
  • Monitoring attendance and behavioral aspects of every student.
  • Identifying weak areas and working out remedies helps students thereby taking their complete care.

 

Highlights of the Scheme:


  • One teacher is nominated as ‘Teacher Guardian’ for about Fifteen to twenty-five students.
  • Teacher Guardian maintains all records of students in the formats provided.
  • The teacher’s Guardian does all the follow-up regarding the attendance of students under his supervision.
  • Teacher guardian monitors the academic performance of students.
  • If the student remains absent for a continuous week, then the teacher’s guardian sends a note to all concerned teachers to stop the practical of that student.
  • The teacher’s guardian sends letters regarding performance and attendance to parents every month.
  • Poor performance of students is improved by way of counseling. If required teacher’s guardian calls the parents on the phone based on weekly monitoring.
  • The teacher’s guardian does counseling about studies.
  • Teacher guardian tries to solve the domestic problems of students.
  • In consultation with the In charge HOD and subject teachers, the teacher guardian may assign relevant homework to students for their improvement.

The procedure of the Mentoring System:


  • An effective student mentoring system (SMS) has already been implemented in our college.
  • All student of college are covered this under system from the first day of college.
  • A mentoring register is distributed to all the staffs of the college .Each staff is allocated 02-25 students under mentoring system.
  • Faculties meet the student periodically and their academic progress and all his activity are discussed and noted in the register.
  • Any discrepancies in the student’s behavior like attendance etc. are question and counseled     with care.
  • Staff submits the register to the HOD.
